Cu2S is a chemical compound consisting of copper (Cu) and sulfur (S) atoms. It is also known as copper(I) sulfide, cuprous sulfide, or copper monosulfide. Cu2S has a black to dark-grey color and is mainly used in the semiconductor industry for the fabrication of photovoltaic solar cells. It is also a component of some anti-fouling paints used on boats to prevent the growth of marine organisms. Cu2S is insoluble in water, but it reacts with acids to form hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas. The compound is found naturally in minerals such as chalcocite and covellite, and it can be prepared by reacting copper and sulfur under high temperatures.
